Although Lander began playing guitar at the age of 6, he's been singing since conscious memory. He studied guitar and played all through high school. Lander played lead guitar and was also the lead singer. At age 14 he was elected chorister of his church. At 16 Lander got his first professional job as a guitar instructor, and has been teaching ever since.
Although accepted to college, Lander decided to join the U.S. Air Force. After basic and technical school training, he was ordered to the Southeast Asia theater, and served in Thailand and Vietnam. While stationed in Vietnam, Lander played in a show band during his off-duty hours. The band, consisting of all G.I.'s, played blues, rock, R&B, pop and soul. They performed for officers and at enlisted men's clubs, USO clubs and other venues to entertain Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine troops.
Returning to the States, Lander finished his military hitch stationed at McConnell AFB. During this time he began his life as a solo singer, guitarist, songwriter, performing at bars, clubs, concert halls, colleges, and virtually any venue that featured live music.
After being discharged, Lander went to Nashville to learn more about the music business. During this time he recorded numerous demos, while continuing to develop his songwriting and live performance. A few years later Lander formed his own record and publishing companies, and release his first album, "High Time".
Since then Lander has had a professional playing career, and recorded a number of albums, some made of original material, some of cover songs. For live shows Lander has opened for many famous artists, including Stephen Stills, Bonnie Raitt, Roger McGuin, John Hartford, Rory Gallagher, America, Alvin Lee, The Ventures, Shawn Phillips, Leon Russell, and many others.
Lander still plays live on occasion, and spends a great deal of time in the recording studio, writing & developing new material. He still teaches all types of guitar, along with most other fretted instruments. Teaching music is his passion.
