Steve started learning to play the guitar at age 12 after watching his brother’s power trio perform “Smoke on The Water” in their living room. That same year, his grandmother gave him a Chet Atkins record, sparking his passion for the guitar.

In 1979 at age 17, Steve was hired to teach guitar at Uhlik Music. He went on to teach lessons and work in sales at The Guitar Stand and later at Senseney Music, where he was a rock band coach and summer guitar camp teacher. Most recently, he taught and worked in sales at Palen Music.

Steve studied jazz guitar privately at WSU and has also explored classical guitar. Over the past 46 years, he has played in church bands, solo and duo gigs, music theater, weddings, special events, and recording studios.

His teaching approach is personally developed for each student. He enjoys using different songs and styles to build ear training, harmony, and rhythmic feel. Steve continues to practice consistently and play as many gigs as possible.
